This page provides links to resources help students prepare for meetings with their academic advisor.
Selecting the right courses at the right time can mean the difference between finishing your degree on time and delaying your graduation (and racking up debt). This website is only part of the advisement puzzle. To select the right courses, you should:
- Know who your academic advisor is. If you do not know who your advisor is, consult the Physics Department office.
- Visit your academic advisor at least once a semester before you select courses for the next semester
- Keep your advisor in the loop, especially before making any academic decisions (such as adding or dropping a course)
- Become aware of (and stay up to date on) information about courses
Course Prerequisites
In most science programs, courses build on each other. Many physics classes require that students take certain other courses first. (For instance, you must take PHY111 before taking PHY112), so it's important to take certain courses as early as possible in order to graduate quickly.
